User Experience

Coming into the New Media Certificate, I was most most interested about learning more about user experience. I had heard of it a lot but was unsure what it exactly entailed. This class is only offered in the summer so I took this class completely online over the course of the summer. I was able to learn how to work Figma and started to design wireframes and prototypes. Through the lectures, I learned about the principles of user experience and how to create the best usability experience for all users. We worked on projects and assignments that bettered our understanding of all aspects of user experience including personas, usability tests, and wireframes.

Prototype Triptych

For our first major project of the course, we were tasked with creating a prototype app supposedly commissioned by an airline company. The assignment contained three "panels" to show the different stages/fidelities of our prototype app. I chose to create a travel app specifically focused on finding picture worthy locations. With inspiration from other apps and my original ideas and sketches, I was able to create a fully polished and functional prototype of a travel app on Figma.

Final Project

The final project for this course was a comprehensive summmary of everything we had learning through the hands-on projects and online modules. The objective was to create an app for a mock commission from the Athens Clarke-County Convention and Visitors Bureau. In collaboration with two other students in my class, we created the app "Hermes" to help users find the perfect spots to visit in Athens. Besides the functioning prototype on Figma, we also crafted usability tests, personas, and future design recommendations.
